An early Christmas present for the orchestra
December 9th 2017
Wirral Community Orchestra has been awarded £1000 from the Liverpool Empire Trust, which celebrates 150 years of providing live theatre entertainment in the city of Liverpool. As part of the celebration, £20,000 in grants of up to £2000 were offered to amateur arts groups.  The orchestra applied for funding for new music stand covers so that our performances can have that little extra professional appearances! On December 9th, Lesley, Richard and Vicky went to an awards ceremony at the theatre to receive the cheque. A big thank you to the trust from all of our players.  We will send a photograph of the orchestra at our summer concert when we hope to have some new covers complete with our logo.

.WCO 's Summer Serenade  features music from many different genres - popular classics to  Gilbert and Sullivan to the music of the Beatles and Abba. There is music for all tastes t enjoy. Plus this year we  welcome special guests of the Melrose Singers and the Sunlight Quartet. The Melrose Singers are based in Hoylake and bring us songs of a transport theme to reminisce to and join in.  The Sunlight Quartet are 4 members from the main orchestra who have formed a string quartet. They performed as guests at our Christmas concert and were much enjoyed so we look forward to hearing more of them at our Summer Serenade.

This year our concert is back at our rehearsal base of West Kirby United Reformed Church, Meols Drive, West Kirby Ch48 5DA, which has now completed its re-ordering process and offers a large bright and airy space with  comfortable seating for all.
Tickets are available at the door £5 per adult - accompanied school aged children free.
or via website email: [email protected]

The concert is a Partnership Event with Wirral Festival of Firsts, raising money for Cancer Research

Christmas Concert 2016

A great evening of music and song enjoyed by a large and varied audience. The orchestra rose to the challenge of Beehoven's Fifth - a piece their conductor John Modelski had been keen to perform for some time. Other pieces included a James Bond Medley and Pirates of the Carribean - a favourite peice of the orchestra.  The audience was treated to a performance by the Sunlight Quartet and some very seasonal songs from the Deeside Singers. Once again, refreshments were provided by the Tea Team from West Kirby URC, to whom WCO send their grateful thanks.

A big thanks to all who helped to make this a great concert. especially to our conductor John for his hard work and dedication to make us the best we can be.   Our concert was a great success enhanced by our guest choir, the Deeside Singers and our musical trio Vicky, Richard and Sarah. Thank you also to those who helped transport the musical equipment from WKURC to Hoylake Chapel.   Our next concert will be back at WKURC in the newly refurbished church buildings complete with a big stage and comfy chairs for the audience.

Great news - our application for funding from West Wirral Community Funding has been successful. We have received a grant of £400 for our Percussion Project. This means that we will be able to buy some new acoustic drums and  other percussion instruments for use in our concerts in the summer. A big thank you to all who voted for us and to West Wirral Community Fund for their generosity and support.
