After the months of Covid Lock Down, WCO has begun its regular rehearsals at West Kirby United Reformed Church, CH48 5DA. All members are so glad to be back and able once again to make music together and look forward to resuming the concerts and other activities of the orchestra.
A few members of the orchestra braved the cold weather at Christmas to sing and play for the shoppers and help support the Roy Castle Lung Cancer Foundation Christmas campaign. Well done WCO! Two members of West Kirby United Reformed Church, Donna and Paul Meadows, were so moved by the plight of the homeless on the streets of Liverpool that they have joined with others to take hot food and warm clothing and sleeping bags to those sleeping on the streets. Wirral Community Orchestra members decided to help in this work by collecting warm socks, hats, scarves and gloves to add to Paul's collection to be given freely to those in need. Big thank you to all who gave and supported this great work.
What a fabulous evening! The orchestra together with our guests of the Melrose Ladies Choir, the Sunlight String Quartet plus the talented youngsters with piano and guitar solos, entertained an audience of over 100 to a real celebration of music and song from popular classics to the songs of musicals to songs from all over Europe. A special big thanks to photographer Ole Hansen (www.photographyselect.co.uk) for his superb photographs which capture the spirit of enjoyment of the evening. Our Summer Festival Finale is almost upon us. Joining us again are the popular Melrose Singers to enchant us with their melodies of Europe plus The Sunlight Quartet bring us music from the magic of their fingers.
